Oven-Roasted Pulled Pork

I love pulled-pork, especially when it is this easy to prepare.

About this recipe

Full disclosure:  I make no claim that this pulled-pork is anything like barbecued pulled-pork.  There is no smoke, for one thing.  I will claim, however, that this technique produces a delicious, flavorful, and juicy result -- ready for the sauce or condiment of your choice – and all for the price of a few minutes of prep and another few minutes "pulling" the meat.  How easy can cooking get?

Ingredients

  • 4 - 5 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt

Directions

  1. Mix the paprika, garlic power, brown sugar, dry mustard, and salt together in a small bowl.
  2. Rub the spice blend all over the pork and marinate it for 1 hour or up to overnight, covered, and in the refrigerator.
  3. Put the pork on a rack in a roasting pan and bake in a 300° F oven for 4 to 5 hours, or until the meat can be "pulled" easily away from the bone with two forks.
  4. Using two forks, pull the meat apart for serving with your favorite sauce.

  • The pork shoulder can be bone in or boneless, but bone in is preferable.  Pork shoulders larger than 5 pounds may require more than 5 hours.
