My mother's
Graham Cracker Pie Crust

The perfect (and traditional) crust for a Banana Cream Pie.

About this recipe

Banana Cream Pie with a Graham Cracker Pie Crust was one of my childhood favorites.  It was my father's favorite, too, so my mother prepared it often.  I don't make it often, but when I do it's as delicious as I remember it!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 26 squares)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Directions

  1. Using a rolling pin, crush the graham cracker squares into fine crumbs.
  2. Combine the crumbs and the sugar in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the melted butter and mix thoroughly.  Turn the crumb mixture into a 9-inch pie plate.  Press onto the bottom and sides of the pie plate to form a firm, even crust.
  4. Bake in a preheated 375° F oven for about 10 minutes (see Notes), or until the edges are brown.
  5. Cool on a wire rack.

Notes

  • Baking the crust until it begins to brown can require up to 15 minutes.  I usually begin checking it at the 8 minute mark and then again every 2 minutes until I see it begin to brown.
