Grandpa Joe's
Cranberry Sauce

This is the e closest I can come to recreating what comes out of a can
-- without it actually coming out of a can!

About this recipe

Cranberry Sauce is unquestionably my favorite condiment with roast fowl of any kind.  Made with fresh berries, which unfortunately are not available year round, the sauce is spectacularly (and simultaneously) tart, sweet, a bit chewy, and delicious.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar

Directions

  1. Heat all three ingredients in a small sauce pan over medium heat until the juices begin to boil.
  2. Simmer, uncovered, over medium low heat for another 7 minutes, or until the juices almost completely evaporate.
  3. Remove from the heat and refrigerate until ready to use.
